The mission of The Daylighter is to strengthen democracy by serving the information needs of engaged global citizens.
We live in a changing world and are all global citizens now — whether we like it or not:
• Local economies are competing on a global scale
• Environmental issues cross national borders
• War and terrorism do not respect boundaries
• Government policies have impacts around the world
Sadly, our ability to respond to these border-crossing issues has been badly damaged by reactionary political partisanship that creates bitter divisions in our society — and only benefits the political parties themselves, and their vested ideological and financial sponsors.
As journalists serving the public interest, one of our fundamental goals is to build bridges across these artificial partisan divides, and serve the shared interests of people and communities across the United States and around the world.
To that end, we’re covering difficult and divisive topics, but with a focus on the basic human-rights and public-interest issues that underpin all these controversies, rather than the surface-level partisanship and “hot takes” that absorb so much mass-media attention.
We’d love to get your feedback about how we’re doing. If you have any thoughts about The Daylighter’s coverage topics and style, please drop us a letter to the editor.
